Community Services - Traineeship

The traineeship vocation of Adventure Based Youth Work has been established.

Qualifications, structure and packaging

91385NSW Certificate IV in Adventure Based Youth supports the traineeship pathway.

The TAFE NSW accredited course is a mixture of counselling and adventure based learning. It combines key units of competency drawn from Certificate IV in Youth Work and Certificate III Outdoor Recreation to create a new qualification suitable for people working with youth in the Adventure Based Learning (adventure therapy) areas.

Job description

Trainees will acquire skills required for employment within community agencies in adventure based youth work roles.

They will learn to plan, design and conduct educational programs with people in an adventure based youth work industry. This will involve training in organising work priorities, interacting with clients and applying risk analysis and legal processes.

Industrial arrangements

Applications to establish traineeships whether full-time or part-time will not be approved unless the Commissioner for Vocational Training is satisfied that appropriate industrial arrangements are in place.

Trainees are covered by the Training Wage (State) Award 2002.

Working with Children

Where the nature of any employer’s activities is child related and the employer is taking on a trainee, the employer must comply with the NSW Commission for Children and Young People’s Working with Children Program.

Learning resources and assessment materials

TAFE NSW is preparing resources to support delivery of its 91385 NSW Certificate IV - Adventure Based Youth Work accredited course.

Registered training organisations

For registered training providers which can deliver the traineeship qualification go to National Training Information Service.

For organisations which are in contract with the NSW Department of Education and Training to be paid for the delivery of the traineeship training go to Training Market.

Inspecting Vocational Training Orders

A copy of the Vocational Training Order is available for inspection on this internet site below or at any State Training Services Regional Office of the NSW Department of Education and Training.
