Community Services - Employment Services - Traineeship

Date of effect: 17 July 2009

The traineeship vocation of Community Services - Employment Services has been established.

Qualifications, structure and packaging

CHC08 Community Services Training Package includes 74 qualifications ranging from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma. The Client Services sector of the Training Package has fifteen qualifications ranging from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma. Two qualifications support Community Services - Employment Services traineeship pathways. Their details are below:

Industrial arrangements

Applications to establish traineeships will not be approved unless the Commissioner for Vocational Training is satisfied that appropriate industrial arrangements are in place.

Industrial arrangements for trainees are in place through the following industrial instruments:

  • Community Employment Training and Support Services Award (1999)
  • National Training Wage Award 2000
  • Social and Community Services Employee (State) Award
  • Training Wage (State) Award 2002

These arrangements provide for part time traineeships.

A range of non-endorsed components have been developed and are available through Australian Training Products

Registered training organisations

For registered training providers which can deliver the traineeship qualifications go to National Training Information Service.

For organisations which are in contract with the NSW Department of Education and Training to be paid for the delivery of traineeship training go to each of the qualifications listed below.

Transition arrangements

Transition arrangements allow the delivery of old and new traineeship qualifications, for three months after the date of effect of the new Vocational Training Order. See here.

This Commissioners Information Bulletin supersedes information about Employment Services in Bulletins 221, 281, 290, 314 and 321.

Job descriptions

At Certificate III level trainees will learn to:

  • locate employers and clients
  • provide a range of job search services
  • secure positions
  • maintain suitable employment for clients.

At Certificate IV level the trainee will learn to:

  • implement business strategies to expand client base
  • source and assess candidates
  • provide employment management services
  • manage the recruitment process for client organisations
  • facilitate, co-ordinate, promote, implement and monitor management activities on a day to day basis.

Terms of training

Full time:

  • CHC30908 Certificate III in Employment Services
    • 12 months or until the relevant competencies are achieved
  • CHC42008 Certificate IV in Employment Services - direct entry
    • 24 months or until the relevant competencies are achieved
  • CHC42008 Certificate IV in Employment Services where the trainee holds CHC30908 Certificate III in Employment Services
    • 12 months or until the relevant competencies are achieved

Part-time:

See nominal terms and hours for part-time traineeships 
Probationary periods

Where the nominal term is:

  • 12 months the probationary period is 1 month
  • 12 -24 months the probationary period is 2 months
