Commissioners Information Bulletin 358
Issued: 23 June 2008

Community Pharmacy Operations - Amended Vocational Training Order for the recognised traineeship vocation of Community Pharmacy Operations

At the request of the NSW Wholesale, Retail and Personal Services Industry Training Advisory Body (ITAB), the Commissioner for Vocational Training has varied the existing Vocational Training Order (VTO) for the recognised traineeship vocation of Community Pharmacy Operations, under section 6 of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act, 2001.

The revised VTO includes replacement of WRP20102 Certificate II in Community Pharmacy, WRP30102 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy and WRP40102 Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy with SIR20107 Certificate II in Community Pharmacy, SIR30107 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy and SIR40107 Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy.

SIR07 RETAIL SERVICES TRAINING PACKAGE

The SIR07 Retail Services Training Package is a result of the review of three previous Training Packages which have been integrated: the WRR02 Retail Training Package, the WRW01 Wholesale Training Package and the WRP02 Community Pharmacy Training Package.

The Community Pharmacy Training Package was endorsed in 2002. The changes relating to Community Pharmacy Services, as reflected in the SIR07 Retail Services Training Package, include:

  • integrating the Retail, Wholesale and Community Pharmacy Training Packages
  • replacing previous qualifications with updated qualifications where the intent is the same, namely Certificates II, III and IV in Community Pharmacy
  • integrating and deleting various units of competency.

The Community Pharmacy component of the SIR07 Retail Services Training Package is distinct from the Retail and Wholesale components. In particular, its qualifications have the words “Community Pharmacy” in their titles, the units of competency are uniquely coded to make them clearly identifiable and there are specific qualification packaging rules. These features are in response to the community pharmacy sector’s views that their industry has unique customer service and legal requirements relating to the sale of medicines.

Vocational Training Order Standard Format

(d)
any other training to be provided in addition to the training required for an appropriate qualification
