Windows Manufacturing Traineeship At the request of Wideline Pty Ltd, the Department of Education and Training has agreed to the interim registration of a Windows Manufacturing Traineeship pending approval of the relevant Vocational Training Order (VTO) to enable its implementation in NSW. The traineeship has been developed in response to the lack of structured entry level training within the windows manufacturing industry. The traineeship has the support of the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Industry Training Advisory Body, the NSW Forest Industries Training Board, the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Forest and Forest Products Division and the Australian Workers Union. The training program which underpins the traineeship was accredited in NSW as a Certificate II in Windows Manufacturing (National Code: 11464). The accreditation period expires in November 2002. This traineeship provides training and skill development in basic workplace skills, timber milling and fabrication techniques for aluminium and timber windows. The training is for a nominal term of twelve months. The course comprises 19 compulsory core modules totalling 570 nominal hours. Completion of the traineeship will deliver competence to the ASF level 2. Course structure and modules are at Attachment A. The traineeship will be delivered predominantly on-the-job whereby trainees will be assigned to a Workplace Trainer to undertake course modules. The minimum requirement for a Workplace Trainer is a Workplace Trainer Category 1 qualification plus a minimum of seven years industry experience in the module being presented. On completion of the traineeship program, trainees must be certified by a Workplace Assessor as having attained all relevant competencies. Training and assessment will be provided by qualified Wideline Assessors and Trainers. Presently, Wideline has 20 employees at Workplace Trainer Category 1 or above and 15 Workplace Assessors. Wideline has developed a computerised Staff Development database which will support the operation of the traineeship. The database will indicate whether competency has been achieved and record details of training including dates of training and assessment. It is anticipated that the initial intake of trainees will consist of 20 trainees at Wideline. Other window manufacturing organisations, including James Hardie have shown interest in employing trainees under the Windows Manufacturing Traineeship. The relevant industrial arrangement in place is the Wideline Pty Ltd Enterprise Agreement 1997. This incorporates the terms and conditions of the National Training Wage Award 1994.
