Extension of the probationary period - section 18 of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001

On the application of the employer or the apprentice or trainee, the Commissioner for Vocational Training may extend the probationary period up to a maximum of 3 months beyond the initial period specified in the relevant Vocational Training Order, Vocational Training Guideline or Industrial Agreement.

The application (PDF 23KB) must be lodged with the Commissioner at the local State Training Centre before the Contract becomes binding.

Notice of the Commissioner's determination will be forwarded to both parties.
