Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney - Legal Entity

The correct legal name for the entity which is known as the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney is the “Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of Sydney”.

Some of the agencies of the Archdiocese which are known by their ‘trading name’ are listed below:

  • Centacare
  • Centacare Employment
  • Centacare Catholic Services
  • Centacare Catholic Community Services
  • Centacare Family Welfare Services
  • Archdiocese of Sydney Trustee for Centacare
  • Catholic Education Office and Archdiocesan Schools

The legal entity “Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of Sydney” is incorporated under the Roman Catholic Church Property Act of 1936.

There are eleven separate incorporated dioceses under this Act ie. Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the:

  1. Archdiocese of Sydney
  2. Diocese of Armidale
  3. Diocese of Bathurst
  4. Diocese of Broken Bay
  5. Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn
  6. Diocese of Lismore
  7. Diocese of Maitland
  8. Diocese of Parramatta
  9. Diocese of Wagga Wagga
  10. Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes
  11. Diocese of Wollongong
  12. Care should be taken to ensure that the correct legal entity is contracted with each Diocese.

The legal entity “Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of Sydney” should be used in respect to agencies of the Archdiocese for applications to establish an apprenticeship or traineeship eg. Centacare.
